ABSTRACT:
Long-term exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation causes skin tanning, a frequent dermatological problem that results in pigmentation, uneven skin tone, and loss of natural skin brightness due to excessive melanin production. The need for safe, efficient, and natural substitutes is rising as people become more conscious of the negative consequences of synthetic chemicals found in traditional cosmetic products. The goal of the current study is to create and assess a herbal de-tanning gel with plant-based components that have been shown to have skin-beneficial qualities. Natural ingredients including nutmeg, sandalwood, turmeric, aloe vera gel, honey, and herbal extracts like Shikakai and ReethA were used to create the recipe. A stable semi-solid preparation was achieved by using xanthan gum as a gelling agent. A variety of physicochemical and performance metrics, such as organoleptic properties, pH, spread ability, viscosity, washability, and skin irritation, were assessed for three distinct formulations (F1, F2, and F3). Desired characteristics like consistent appearance, pleasant odor, and smooth texture were demonstrated by the created formulations. The pH levels were found to be suitable for topical application, falling within the recommended skin range of 5.0–6.5. Washability studies demonstrated that the gel could be readily removed without leaving any residue, while spreadability results validated the gel's ease of application. Measurements of viscosity showed good consistency, especially in formulation F3, which performed at its best. The safety of the herbal formulation was confirmed by the skin irritation (patch test) investigation, which showed no indications of redness, itching, or irritation.
