ABSTRACT:
Aphthous ulcers are painful oral sores that lower quality of life, and contemporary treatments sometimes have significant side effects and only provide provisional relief. Ocimum sanctum, also known as Tulasi, is a therapeutic aromatic plant with antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and wound-healing properties. In order to cure mouth ulcers, this study set out to develop and test an herbal mucoadhesive gel made from Ocimum sanctum. The gel's physicochemical characteristics, spreadability, viscosity, mucoadhesion, in vitro drug release, and stability were evaluated after it was made using the right mucoadhesive polymers. The gel formed a controlled release of active substances as long as it had an appropriate pH, high viscosity, spreadability, and durable mucoadhesive strength. Ocimum sanctum mucoadhesive gel is a safe and effective herbal preparation that provides enhanced mucosal retention and sustained release, making it a viable alternative for the treatment of mouth ulcers.
